Single, double, and triple glazing aren’t suitable for every property. But you know what is? Secondary glazing. Not only can you bypass planning permission, but it’s also more beneficial than any other glazing.
So, how does secondary glazing work?
Does Secondary Glazing Work?
Before we learn how it works, we know you’re wondering ‘does secondary glazing work?’ The answer is yes! But how does it benefit you?
Improves Insulation
There’s no need to suffer in a cold room with secondary glazing. In fact, it can improve the thermal insulation by 70%.
Lowers Noise Pollution
Live in a loud area with lots of rowdy people and events? Whatever your noise issue is, secondary glazing can soundproof any room by 75%.
Reduces Condensation
Struggling with harmful mould during winter? Secondary glazing can reduce condensation and its effects by 95%. That means a fuller bank account, less time spent cleaning and no health issues.
Suitable for Listed Buildings
Last, but not least, secondary glazing is perfect for listed buildings! If you don’t have time for planning permission, secondary glazing is the perfect alternative to double or triple glazing. Not to mention, you can keep the charm and integrity of your property, including the original windows.
How Does Secondary Glazing Work?
Unlike double or triple glazing, secondary glazing doesn’t change the structure of the property. Instead, an additional layer (the secondary glazing) is installed on the interior side of the existing window. This then creates an insulating air gap between the windows, which limits the transfer of heat.
This design allows the building to look the same on the outside, but you receive all the benefits on the inside. This includes a second security barrier, reducing property damage and theft.
What Types of Secondary Glazing Are There?
Secondary glazing is available both fixed or openable in a variety of materials. We use aluminium, which provides the most advantages in comparison to timber or acrylic plastic.
For example, hinged windows can open into the property or away from it, horizontally or vertically. You can also opt for a simple, standard casement window. Whereas, sliding windows are fixed using a sash and are easier to operate.
